titleOfInvention IMPROVEMENTS IN PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS
abstract 1. A composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable metal compound of group 12 for treating a dermatological condition associated with a pathological decrease in cell-to-cell adhesion between epithelial cells in the epidermal barrier. ! 2. A composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable metal compound of group 12 and a fatty acid, or a salt of a fatty acid or derivative thereof, for treating a dermatological condition associated with damage or degradation of the skin or epidermal barrier. ! 3. The composition according to claim 2, in which the dermatological condition is associated with a pathological decrease in cell to cell adhesion between epithelial cells in the epidermal barrier. ! 4. The composition according to any one of claims 1, 2, or 3, wherein the metal compounds are particulate solids. ! 5. The composition according to claim 4, in which at least about 60, 70, 80 or 90% of the particles of the compound have a size of less than about 5, 2, 1, 0.5 or 0.2 microns. ! 6. The composition according to claim 4, in which the average particle size of the compound is less than approximately 5, 2, 1, 0.5 or 0.2 microns. ! 7. The composition according to any one of claim 1 or 2, in which the metal is zinc. ! 8. The composition according to claim 7, in which the metal compound is an inorganic salt or oxide. ! 9. The composition of claim 8, in which the compound is zinc oxide. ! 10. The composition according to any one of claim 1 or 2, wherein said composition comprises a fatty acid or a fatty acid salt or derivative thereof, in which a fatty acid or a fatty acid residue in a fatty acid salt or derivative thereof comprises from 4 to 24, from 10 to 20, from 14 to 20, or from 16 to 18 carbon atoms. ! 11. The composition of claim 10, in which
