abstract SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION: gas gasoline or naphtha is contacted with an aqueous solution of a sulfur compound of the general formula MM Sx, where M is sodium, potassium or ammonium is a radical, M is sodium, potassium, ammonium is a radical or hydrogen, x 1-9. The concentration of the aqueous solution of the sulfur compound is less saturating, but not less than 1 wt.%.
