A composition comprising a smoking material and a supramolecular complex, wherein the supramolecular complex comprises: one or more aromatic substances containing at least one hydroxyl group or at least one aldehyde group. or both, non-covalently linked to a compound of formula I: wherein R 1, R 2 and R 3 are independently selected from the group consisting of -H, -OH and -OR. wherein R is selected from the group consisting of linear and branched alkyl groups of five or fewer carbons; and wherein X is OR4, wherein R4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and linear and branched alkyl groups of five or fewer carbons, or is NR5R6, wherein R5 and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and linear and branched alkyl groups with five or less carbons.
