Process for the preparation of a valsartan-containing pharmaceutical composition comprising the following steps: - providing valsartan particles with a maximum diameter of 1100 μm; granulating a mixture of valsartan and excipients with water or an aqueous dispersion as a granulating liquid to obtain a granulate, excipient into a granulate to obtain a compression mixture, - compressing the compression mixture into the desired form, and - optionally, applying a coating, and wherein the composition as excipient contains crosslinked sodium carboxymethylcellulose.
