abstract An epothilone of a compound of formula I wherein R1a, R1b are the same or different and represent hydrogen; groups which may be substituted by 1-3 halogen atoms, C6-C12 aryl, which may optionally be substituted at one or more sites by halogen, OH, O-alkyl, CO2H, CO2-alkyl, -NH2, -NO2, -N3. -CN, C1-C20 alkyl, C1-C20 acyl, C1-C20 acyloxy groups or C7-C20 aralkyl, which may be optionally substituted at one or more sites by halogen, OH, O-alkyl, CO2H, CO2-alkyl, -NO2. -N3, -CN, C1-C20 alkyl, C1-C20 acyl, C1-C20 acyloxy groups, or taken together - (CH2) m-group with m = 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 or - (CH2) - O- (CH2) -group; R 2a means hydrogen, C 1 -C 10 alkyl, which may optionally be perfluorinated or substituted with 1-5 halogen atoms, hydroxy groups, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy groups, optionally substituted C 6 -C 12 aryl groups which may be substituted with 1-3 halogen atoms.
