abstract Zinc dithiophosphate derivatives useful as antioxidant additives for lubricating oils according to the invention are zinc 0,0-dialkyl-N-bis-methylene-O, O-diallylphenyldithiophosphate of the general formula I wherein R 1 and R 2 represent aliphatic, identical or different radicals with a linear or branched chain and contain a number of 3 to 12 carbon atoms and R3 represents identical or different alkyl radicals having a straight or branched aliphatic chain consisting of a number of 3 to 18 carbon atoms, these derivatives having a minimum content of 5.2 wt% zinc, at least 4.8 wt% phosphorus and at least 9.8 wt% sulfur. The process for preparing the derivatives according to the invention consists in that 24 parts by weight of an alcohol or mixture of alcohols having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms in the chain are reacted with 10 parts by weight of phosphorus pentasulfide, in the range of 40 ... 120 ° C for 4 ... 8h, and separately 47 parts by weight of alkylphenol having 3 to 18 carbon atoms in the aliphatic chain are reacted with 2 parts by weight formaldehyde and 3 parts by weight ammoniacal solution, for 2h, at 40 ... 80 ° C, after which the water is removed under vacuum, .....
