abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of p-nitro-omega-acetamidoacetophenone by the selective hydrolysis of 1-acetamido-2,2-dimethoxy-2- (4-nitrophenyl) -ethane, i.e., the reaction of these in a mixture of acetic acid , sodium acetate at 58 DEG-60 DEG C., followed by acidification with a mineral acid and maintaining for an additional hour at the same temperature, during which p-nitro-omega-acetamidoacetophenone is separated by crystallisation.
