abstract The invention relates to a device for molding / forming hydrophobic catalysts from coal impregnated with platinum and Teflon, and to a process for their preparation, the catalysts being used in catalyzed isotopic exchange installations within heavy water detritification installations. The device according to the invention can be manually or automated consisting of three cylinders (1) calibrated with an inner diameter of 3.5 mm, these being immersed at a certain speed in the layer (2) of powder which is homogenized and loosened in a tray ( 3) by means of a metal comb (4), the height of which is controlled by adjusting the position of the squeegee (5), the device has three punches (6) which move inside the cylinders (1) compressing the powder, after which the stroke continues until evacuation compressed catalysts (7). The process according to the invention consists in preparing the mixture for molding using a dry mixture of charcoal powder impregnated with platinum and Teflon which is moistened with a solution consisting of 5-15% by volume of surfactant, 5-15% by volume of ethyl alcohol and water, the mixture being in the form of a viscous paste with fine bubbles of surfactant which is left for 24 hours at a temperature <19 ° C in a ventilated niche for evaporation of the alcohol, the powder thus obtained is introduced into the tray ( 3), loosen and level with the metal comb (4) and the squeegee (5) until a uniform layer is obtained, the cylinders (7) are inserted in the powder layer with short and repeated movements until the powder is spilled on the top of the cylinders, the punches (6) are inserted into the cylinders and the powder is compressed with a predetermined pressure, the catalysts are discharged into a collection tray to be subjected to an additional drying and sintering treatment. re for vaporization and evacuation of the surfactant from the catalysts.
