abstract The invention relates to a process for the treatment of wastewater, resulting from the preparation of alcohols, consisting of an aldolization reaction followed by hydrogenation, as well as a final distillation of the alcohol, in which the wastewater, comprising three fractions, is subjected to extraction with monoalcohols which contain 8 to 16 carbon atoms in the molecule, in which (a) before extraction, at least two of the three wastewater fractions are first combined and adjusted to a pH value of up to 6 , preferably 1 - 3, and optionally remove the organic phase which is formed and (b) during the process, one or more of the three wastewater fractions are brought into contact, individually and / or together with a coalescence filter, and finally (c) combine all three fractions of wastewater and the mixture is extracted.
