The invention relates to eukaryotic DNA sequences, for native protoporphyrinogenoxidase (protox) or for modified forms of the enzyme, which are tolerant to herbicides. The invention also relates to plants with modified protox activity, which gives herbicide tolerance. These plants can be reproduced or engineered for resistance to protox inhibitors, via mutation of the native protox gene, in a resistant form or through increased levels of native protox gene expression, or can be obtained by transforming with coding sequences, of the protox gene, modified eukaryotic or prokaryotic, or with native prokaryotic protox sequences, which are tolerant to herbicides. Plant genes are also included, including in their code, native or modified protox. à |
