titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR OBTAINING 2-ETHYL-HEXILIC SALICYLATE
abstract 2-ethyl-hexyl-salicylate of general formula, used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food industries and as additive in agriculture, is prepd. from salicylic acid and 2-ethyl-hexyl-alcohol in the presence of p-toluene-sulphonic-acid catalyst in a mol. ratio of 2-4:3-3.5:0.01-0.08, using toluene as solvent. Water formed during the reaction is removed by azeotropic distn. The raw ester is washed by water and a 10% soln. of anhydrous sodium-carbonate and is purified by distn. at 5-7mm Hg progressive vacuum. The high purity prod. has a m.pt. of 167-174 deg.C at 5-7 mm Hg pressure.
