abstract |
The present invention relates to the process for preparation of a reduced camptothecin derivative which involves hydrolysing a camptothecin substrate under alkaline conditions with a reducible substituent, in order to open the lactone E ring and form a carboxylate salt. The carboxylate salt is reduced in order to form a reduced carboxylate salt which is then brought into contact with acid for restoration of the lactone E ring. This process results in substantially increased yields in the camptothecin derivatives. |
