titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF GRANULAR DETERGENT COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING ETER CARBOXYLATE FORMERS |
abstract | The granular detergent contains less than 10 wt% phosphate materials (and pref. also less than 4 (esp. less than 3) wt% alkali metal silicate materials). It is formed by drying a conc. aq. slurry comprising (A) 5-40 (esp. 14-20)wt% of an anionic, nonionic, zwitterionic, ampholytic and/or cationic organic surfactant; (B) 0-30 wt% opf a finely-divided ion-exchange material which is (i) a crystalline aluminosilicate of particle dia. 0.1-10 microns, Ca ion-exchange capacity at least 200 mg. CaCO3 eq/g and ion exchange rate at least 2 grains Ca2+/gallon/min/g/gallon with formula Naz(AlO2)z.(SiO2)y).xH2O (z and y = at least 6; mol ratio z/y = 1-0.5; and x = 10-264) and/or (ii) an amorphous hydrated aluminosilicate of Mg ion exchange capacity at least 50 mg equivs. of CaCO3 hardness/g, aluminosilicate and Mg2+ exchange rate at least 1 grain/gallon/min/g/gallon with formula Mz(zAlO2.SiO2) (M = Na, K or opt. substd. ammonium, and z = 0.5-2); and (C) 5-75 (pref. 10-60)wt% of a water-soluble neutral or alkaline salt contg. 1-25 (pref. 5-15)wt%, based on wt. of the granular detergent compsn. of an ether polycarboxylate builder of formula (I) (R)2-C(COOX)-CR(COOX)-R1 (I) R = H or OH with no more than one OH attached to any one C atom; R1 = (-O-CR(COOX).CR(COOX)nR or -O-C(R)2.COOX; X = H or cations making the builder water-soluble; and n = 0-4. |
