titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF NEW SOLAR PROTECTION AGENTS |
abstract | Sunscreen cpds. of formula X-Y-Z (I) are new (where X = a UVA-absorbing moiety selected from (I) - (V), Z = a UVB-absorbing moiety selected from (VI) - (X); A = R, OR, NR2 or SO3H or its salt or ester; each A' = CN or CO2R'; A2 = OR or NR2; A3 = H or OH; A4,A5 = R or OR provided either A3 or A4 must be OH; A6 = H or SO3H or its salt or ester; A7 = OR or O2C-R' except that both A7 and A3 are not OH; R = H, 1-20C alkyl, (CH2CH2O)pH or (CH2CH(CH3)O)p-H; p = 1-8; R' = 1-20C alkyl; Y = a linking moiety which covalently bonds the X and Z moieties into one molecule and which separates the X and Z moieties such that the electron systems of the moieties are not directly coupled). Also claimed is a sunscreen compsn. The sunscreen agents can be prepd. from commercially-available chromophore contg. molecules. Typically the synthesis will be by an esterification or amidation reaction. |
