abstract In the prepn. of dry fish food, material of animal origin is treated with acid or alkali, converted to silage without heating and then dried at 0-42 deg.C. The raw material may be intestines from fish, slaughterhouse waste, fresh fish, undersize prawns, mussels, ring worms etc. The acid silage is formed with 1% H2SO4 and 1.5% Na or K bisulphite. The acid silage is partic. neutralised with alkaline silage prior to drying. The food may be enriched with aminoacids, enzymes, etc. A binder may also be added. The fish food is not denatured and is thus more natural. The food contains no parasites etc. The intermediate mfr. of fish meal is not required. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week K7).
