abstract Detergent compsn. comprises (i) a betaine of formula (I) (where R1 = COO- or CH(OH)C'2SO3-; R2 and R3 are lower alkyl; R4 = H or lower alkyl; Y = lower alkylene; R5 = higher alkyl; m = 2-7; n = 0-1; "lower" = 1-3C "higher" = (mixed)8-20C); (ii) an anionic surfactant (II) and (iii) as nonionic detergent a polyoxyethylene deriv. of a hydrophoic base (III), the molar ratio (I): (II) being 0.9-1.1:1 and the wt. of (III) is 0.5-2.5 that of (I)+(II). Used esp. as a shampoo having good foam stability, lower ocular irritation and high lathering powder, but also as a general cleaner.
