titleOfInvention PROCESS OF EXTRACTION OF TRITERPENES AND ORGANIC ACIDS OF RESIDUAL RESIN FROM THE PURIFICATION OF CORTICAL AGGLOMERATE
abstract This invention relates to a process for the combined extraction and separation of two substances, felonic acid and friedeline, which exist in significant quantities in a resinous residue from the pure cork agglomerate industry, also known as black agglomerate, which comprises the alkaline hydrolysis of this residue in aqueous solution, with solubilization and emulsion of the said substances jointly with soluble polymer, precipitation of the whole through the action of acids, partial dehydration of the precipitate through the action of alcohol, selective extraction by aliphatic hydrocarbons with the removal of friedeline and felonic acid. Through the action of an alkaline aqueous solution the hydrocarbon solution gives rise to a precipitate of sodium felonate which is separated out by filtration, and after separation of the aqueous phase and evaporation from the organic phase gives rise to crude friedeline crystals which are purified by crystallization.
