abstract The new amines are of formula (I) and (II), in which R is opt. substd. alkyl or aralkyl, R1 is H, NO2, or amino opt. substd. with alkyl or aralkyl, and R2 is carboxyl, ester, salt, CN, OH, alkoxy, amide, sec. or tert. amine or imine. Also new aldimines of formula (V) in which R2 is as above, R5 and R6 are H, opt. substd. alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, being different where one is H, and R7 is H, primary amine, NO2 or NR5R6. Prepn. is by reductive alkylation, in presence of ketones or aldehydes and solvent, of intermediates of formula (IV). This gives high yields of cpds. (I) and (II) or intermediates (V) which can be converted into (I) and (II) by reduction.
