titleOfInvention PROCESS OF NEUTRALIZATION OF ALPHA-HYDROXYETHANOIC ACID
abstract Neutralisation process for alpha-hydroxyethanoic acid for its application to skin, hair and nails without causing irritation or burning. Neutralised alpha-hydroxyethanoic acid can be used in topical products for the skin without giving rise to side effects. The said process is achieved by separately weighing the 70% alpha-hydroxyethanoic acid and ammonium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide in the absence of which the "neutralisation" can be performed in primary, secondary and tertiary amines or alkaline earth metals. The weight ratio is 3/5 for alpha-hydroxyethanoic acid and 2/5 for hydroxide. The ammonium or sodium hydroxide is added to the alpha-hydroxyethanoic acid until a pH of 8.00 is reached, holding the reaction temperature to a maximum of 30 degree C. The pH is stabilised. The 70% alpha-hydroxyethanoic acid is added until the pH value reaches 5.70. Other active ingredients can be added to the product resulting from mixture of the excipients mentioned and the ammonium or sodium salt of alpha-hydroxyethanoic acid.
