abstract | Disclosed are stilbene compounds of formula I, in which R1 signifies hydrogen, halogen or C1-6 alkyl, R2 signifies hydrogen or methyl, R3 signifies cyano or a radical -CONR7R8 in which either R7 and R8, independently, each signifies hydrogen, C1-6alkyl or C2-6hydroxyalkyl, or R7 and R8, together with the nitrogen atom, signify a pyrrolidine, piperidine or morpholine radical, EITHER R4 and R5, independently, each signifies C1-6alkyl or C 2-6hydroxyalkyl, or R4 and R5, together with the nitrogen atom, form a radical (a) CH2-CH2 -N ANGLE ANGLE X (a) CH2-CH2 in which -X- signifies -CH2-, -O-, -S-, a direct bond, or -NR9-, in which R9 signifies C 1-6alkyl or C2-6hydroxy-alkyl, R6 signifies hydrogen or C1-6alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted by hydroxy, cyano or aminocarbonyl, M signifies hydrogen or a non-chromophoric cation, A<-> signifies a non-chromophoric anion M SIGNIFIES 2 OR 3, AND N SIGNIFIES 0 OR 1, THE -SO3M group, shown floating, being bound to the 4- or 5-position of the benzene ring and, when n signifies 1, R6 being bound either to the nitrogen or, when NR4R5 signifies a thiomorpholino ring, to the nitrogen or to the sulphur thereof or, when NR4R5 signifies a piperazine ring, to one or other of the nitrogens thereof, their production and use as optical brighteners on cellulosics, particularly on cotton and paper.n[US3970647A] |
