abstract 1290697 Anthracene derivatives CIBA GEIGY AG 22 Dec 1969 [3 Jan 1969 2 Dec 1969] 62204/69 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula (R 0 = OMe, NO 2 , NH 2 ; R = H, Me) and their acid addition salts are prepared by (a) reducing a compound of the formula (R 0 = OMe, NH 2 ), (b) reducing a compound of the formula (X = -CH=NCH 3 or -CH=N(CH 3 ) 2 ) or (c)-when R 0 = OMe-methylating the parent phenol, optionally followed by reduction of R 0 = NO 2 to NH 2 , methylation of a compound in which R = H and R 0 = OMe or NO 2 , salt formation and/or resolution. The preparation of 2-nitro-9,10-dihydro-9,10- ethano - 9 - anthracenealdehyde, 2 nitro - 9- methyliminomethyl - 9,10 - dihydro - 9,10 - ethanoanthracene and 2 - methoxy - 9,10 - dihydro - 9, 10 - ethano - 9 - anthracenecarboxylic acid is described. The above compounds are sedatives and psychotropic agents, and promote efficient nutrient utilization in animals. They may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical or veterinary preparations containing them in association with a carrier.n[GB1290697A]
