abstract The present invention relates to new thioxanthen-9-one derivatives, methods for the preparation of new thioxanthen-9-one derivatives, new photo-initiation systems for cationic, radical, thiol-ene and hybrid photoinitiated polymerization processes, and applications of the new thioxanthen-9-one derivatives. The new thioxanthen-9-one derivatives are described by the general formula (1), in which the R substituent is: 1) a compound of the general formula (2), in which R1 is: -H, CH3, CN, -SCF3, SCH3, -Cl , -OCH3, R2 is: -H, -CH3, or a compound of general formula (3), 2) a moiety of general formula (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e, 4f). R 'is a) -CH2CH3 b) a moiety of the general formula (5) in which R1 is: H, CH3, CN, -SCF3, SCH3, -Cl, -OCH3, R2 is -H, -CH3 or a compound of formula (6) c) a compound of formula (7), and R "is: -H, -CH 2 CH 3.
