abstract The invention relates to a method for producing R - (-) - 2-bromo-1- (4'-bromophenyl) -ethan-1-ol, formula 2. As a result of the enzymatic system contained in the cells of the strain Rhodotorula rubra KCh 82, enantioselective reduction occurs of the carbonyl group of the substrate of formula 1. The alcohol thus obtained is isolated from the aqueous culture of the microorganism in a known manner by extraction with a water-immiscible organic solvent.
