Aminomethyl-acridine derivatives (I) are new. Aryl substituted aminomethyl-acridine derivatives of formula (I) and their salts are new. X = N and Y = C; or X = C and Y = N; R<1> = A; R<2> = H or OR<12>; R<3> = H; or R<2> and R<3> together form a double bond; R<4> = CH2NR<14>R<15>; R<5> and R<6> = H or 1-6C alkyl; and R<7> and R<8> = H; or R<3> = A; R<1>, R<2>, R<4>, R<5>, R<7> and R<8> = H; R<4> = OR<12>; or R<1> and R<4> together or R<4> and R<5> together form a double bond; and R<6> = CH2NR<4>R<15>; or R<5> = A; R<1>-R<4> and R<7> = H; R<6> = H or R<12>; or R<3> and R<6> together or R<6> and R<7> together form a double bond; and R<8> = CH2NR<14>R<15>; A = group of formula (a); R<9> and R<10> = H, OH, 1-6C alkoxy, Cl, F, CF3, CN, COOH, CONR<17>R<18>, or COOR<16>; R<11> = H, OH, 1-6C alkoxy, 3-7C cycloalkyloxy, aryloxy, or heterocyclyloxy; R<12> = H, 1-6C alkyl, aryl, or COR<13>; R<13> and R<16> - R<18> = 1-6C alkyl or aryl; and R<14> and R<15> = 1-6C alkyl, aryl or 3-7C cycloalkyl. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of compounds (I) excluding those where R<1> = A, R<2> = H or OR<12> and R<3> = H or R<2> and R<3> together form a double bond, R<4> = CH2NR<14>R<15>, R<5> and R<6> = 1-6C alkyl and R<7> and R<8> = H. |
