abstract WHICH INCLUDES: a) PROVIDE A MIXTURE THAT IS COMPOSED OF PARTICULATE CHALCOPYRITE CONCENTRATE AND PARTICULATE PYRITE, WHERE THE RELATION OF SAID CHALCOPYRITE WITH SAID PYRITE IN SAID MIXTURE IS IN THE RANGE OF LESS THAN 1: 20; b) SHAKE AN ACIDIFYING SULPHATE LEACHING SOLUTION WITH SAID MIXTURE TO SUSPEND SAID CHALCOPYRITE CONCENTRATE AND SAID PARTICULATED PYRITE IN SAID LEACHING SOLUTION; c) CHEMICALLY LEACH SAID COPPER FROM SAID AGITATED MIXTURE OF LEACHING SOLUTION, IN THE PRESENCE OF A GAS CONTAINING OXYGEN, UNDER CONDITIONS IN WHICH SAID PIRITA IS SUBSTANTIALLY NON-OXIDATED, TO PRODUCE A SOLUTION THAT WILL CONTAIN A SOLUTION; AND d) RECOVER SUCH LEAKED COPPER FROM SUCH SOLUTION, THROUGH SOLVENT OR ELECTROLYTIC EXTRACTION. SUCH CONDITIONS INCLUDE MAINTAINING AN OPERATING POTENTIAL OF THE LEACHING SOLUTION AT 520 mV OR LOWER VERSUS Ag / AgCl, THROUGH THE RELATION OF THE CONCENTRATE WITH THE PYRITE, OF THE PARTICLE SIZE OF THE P80 CONCENTRATE OF 210 MICRON OR LOWER, OR LOWER SIZE PYRITE P80 OF 106 MICRONS OR LOWER, THE ACID CONCENTRATION, AND THE TEMPERATURE OF THE LEACHING SOLUTION. THE LEACHING IS CARRIED OUT IN THE PRESENCE OF A GAS CONTAINING OXYGEN, AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE, AND AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 50 AND 120 ° C. THE MOLECULAR RATIO OF ACID ADDED IN THE LEACHING SOLUTION IS GREATER OR EQUAL TO 1.5: 1
