Pharmaceutical composition based on macrolides for local application in ophthalmology. |
abstract |
The invention concerns a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and/or treating ocular infections designed for topical application. The invention particularly concerns such a composition which is in the form of a drip-dispensing eye-potion wherein a antibiotic of the class of macrolides, such as azithromycin, is in solution in an oily carrier. Said carrier is in particular of the type of products consisting essentially of medium-chain triglycerides wherein the alcohol functions of the glycerol are completely esterified by saturated hydrocarbon carboxylic acids whereof the molecule comprises 5 to 12 carbon atoms. Preferably the acids are linear-chain fatty acids with comprising 8 to 10 carbon atoms, such as caprylic acid and capric acid. The composition is advantageously prepared by making a solution of the active agent carried out at a temperature not higher than 70 DEG C. |
