titleOfInvention Low density edible animal chews and methods of making same
abstract An edible pet chew comprising an expanded pre-gelatinized cereal flour matrix comprising between 50 and 65 wt.% pre-gelatinized flour, and a bicarbonate. The pet chew has a density not greater than 1.0 Kg/L, and a caloric density of 1.5-2.7 Kcal/cm3. The pet chew has a smooth exterior surface substantially free from undulations, blisters and bumps. The invention provides an edible pet chew with an appealing exterior surface and low caloric density that exhibits better dental cleaning scores than an unexpanded similarly formulated commercial dental product.
