abstract Abstract – 603929 Disclosed herein is a method (10) for producing low oxygen biomass-derived pyrolysis oil, the method comprising the steps of: reducing one or more of the solids content of biomass-derived pyrolysis oil to less than 0.10%; the total metals content thereof to less than 100 ppm., and the water content thereof to less than 20 weight percent (wt. %), the steps of reducing the one or more of the solids content, the metals content, and the water content producing a treated biomass-derived pyrolysis oil (250); and deoxygenating the treated biomass-derived pyrolysis oil (400). Wherein the step of deoxygenating preferably comprises deoxygenating in the presence of hydrogen-containing gas and a first catalyst having a neutral catalyst support at first hydroprocessing conditions comprising a reaction temperature in the range of 100°C to 400°C, a pressure of 3204 kPa to 12410 kPa (450 to 1800 psig), a liquid hourly space velocity of 0.25 volume of liquid feed/volume of catalyst/hour (V/V/Hr) to 1.0 V/V/Hr, and a hydrogen-containing gas treat rate of 1000 SCFIB to 12000 SCFIB (400).
