abstract | Disclosed is a method of preparing gibberellin derivatives as represented by formula (I), said method comprises reacting a compound of formula (II), with sodium borohydride (NaBH4) in an aprotic solvent (such as dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulphoxide or dimethyl acetamide) to produce a mixture comprising the compound of formula (I); wherein R is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, or a substituted version of any of these groups and R1 is an alkylsulfonate or an arylsulfonate, or a substituted version of either of these groups such as a tosyl group. |
