abstract A beverage cartridge 102 for use with a beverage forming machine, comprises a water tight container 116 having an internal volume with a substantially soluble beverage precursor 112 disposed within the container 116. The internal volume of the container 116 is greater than the volume of the beverage precursor 112. The beverage precursor 112 is arranged such that all or nearly all of the substantially soluble beverage precursor 112 is dissolvable or dispersable in water 118 delivered to the container at a volumetric flow rate of at least 0.03 ounces/second leaving little or no insoluble material of the beverage precursor 112, and is formed of a plurality of particulates where at least 60 % of the plurality of particulates has a largest dimension that is greater than about 200 microns and less than about 700 microns. The cartridge 102 is water tight.
