abstract | Disclosed is a method for monitoring prostate conditions in a subject, comprising determining a Paired Box 2 gene-to-beta defensin-1 gene (PAX2-to-DEFB1) expression ratio in cells obtained from the prostate of the subject, wherein the PAX2-to-DEFB1 expression ratio is correlated with prostate conditions. Also disclosed is a kit for monitoring prostate conditions in a subject, comprising: a first pair of PCR primers for detecting DEFB I expression in a tissue from said subject, the first pair of PCR primers preferably having the nucleotide sequences of SEQ ID NOS: 35 and 37; a second pair of PCR primers for detecting PAX2 expression in the same tissue from said subject, the second pair of PCR primers preferably being selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOS: 43 and 47, SEQ ID NOS: 44 and 48, and SEQ ID NOS: 45 and 49; and a third pair of PCR primers for detecting a first control gene expression in the same tissue from said subject, the first control gene preferably being the GAPDH gene or the beta-actin gene and/or the third pair of PCR primers preferably being selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOS: 42 and 46 and SEQ ID NOS: 34 and 36. |
