An animal feed additive comprising mannosylerythritol lipids and/or rhamnolipids, wherein the animal is a bird, livestock or ruminant animal in particular chicken, pig or cow. The mannosylerythritol is obtained from the yeast genus Pseudozyma and the rhamnolipids are obtained from the bacteria genus Pseudomonas. The feed additive can be used to treat or prevent infectious disease caused by the Gram-positive bacteria from the genera Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. The feed additive can further be used to reduce the generation of the greenhouse gas methane produced from the fermentation in ruminant animals and promote propionic acid generation. |
