Disclosed is a bioadhesive composition having a bio adhesive strength of about 1.5 to 3.5 grams for the treatment and prevention of periodontal diseases consisting of; a) 0.01 percent to 10 percent by weight of a curcuminoid substance, b) 1 to 3 percent by weight of one or more polymers selected from the group hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose and carbomers, c) sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate or mixtures thereof, and d) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient wherein said bioadhesive composition is an oral gel. Also disclosed is the use of the bio-adhesive for the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of gingivitis and other periodontal diseases. |
