Provided is the use of an isolated bacterial strain having at least 95% homology to the 16S rRNA sequence of SEQ ID NO. 1 for the manufacture of a medicament formulated for the prophylaxis of a bowel condition. The ATCC deposit of an exemplary strain is PTA-6737. The bowel condition can be inflammatory bowel disease, antibiotic associated diarrhea or diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile. |
