Disclosed is an isolated HBV (Hepatitis B Virus) variant that comprises at least one nucleotide mutation in the DNA polymerase gene at codon position 181, according to the genotype-independent numbering scheme for HBV polymerase, which results in an alanine to serine amino acid substitution, rtA181S. The isolated HBV variant exhibits a decreased sensitivity to the nucleoside analogue Adefovir and/or Lamivudine. Also disclosed is the isolated HBV variant with at least one further nucleotide mutation in the DNA polymerase gene at codon position 204 of the polymerase gene. |
