titleOfInvention A dental orthotic device for mandibular advancement
abstract A dental orthotic device for retaining a patient's mandible in a protrusive position is disclosed. The dental orthotic device (100) includes a convex band-shaped intraoral anterior mandibular abutment surface (125), an extramaxillary anterior maxillary abutment surface (115), and an intraoral posterior maxillary abutment surface (140). The intraoral anterior mandibular abutment surface (125) resists mandibular retractions by abutting the patient's gingiva covering the mandible. The intraoral anterior mandibular abutment surface (125) is braced against the extramaxillary anterior maxillary abutment surface (115) by means of the extramaxillary anterior maxillary abutment surface (125) abutting the patient's tissue covering the subnasal maxillary bone. The intraoral posterior maxillary abutment surface (140) resists rotation of the dental orthotic produced by interaction of the intraoral anterior mandibular abutment surface (125) and the extramaxillary anterior maxillary abutment surface (115) on the patient.
