abstract A reinforced, lightweight, dimensionally stable building panel 10 with a thickness of 0.25-1.0 in (6.3-25.4 mm), density of 60 - 85 pcf ((61 - 1360 kgm3) and a flexural strength of about 750 to 1180 psi, made by drying a mixture of a cementitous composition with water. The cementitous composition when dry, comprises 35 - 70% by weight reactive powder, 20 - 50% by weight lightweight filler, and 0.5 - 5.0 % by weight polyvinyl alcohol fibres which act as reinforcement. The lightweight filler has a particle specific gravity of .002 to 1and a particle size of 10 to 400 microns. The reactive powder comprises when dry, Portland hydraulic cement and active pozzolan. The polyvinyl fibre comprises monofilament and/or multifilament threads of polyvinyl alcohol, which have been optionally modified by at least one of the following functional groups - carboxyl, amide, nitrile, phosphate, and sulphate, an optional brightener in the polyvinyl alcohol fiber, an optional brightener on the polyvinyl alcohol fiber, an optional adhesive agent in the polyvinyl alcohol fiber, and an optional adhesive agent on the polyvinyl alcohol fiber. The fibres have a diameter of about 10 to 400 microns (micrometers), a length of about 0.1 to 1 inches (2.5 to 25.4 mm), and a fiber elastic modulus of 20 to50 GPa.
