Disclosed is a method of identifying a protein or peptide containing a Replikin sequence comprising scanning the amino acid sequence of the protein or peptide for a subsequence consisting of 7 to 50 amino acids with at least one lysine residue on one end of the subsequence and at least one lysine residue or at least one histidine residue on the other end of the subsequence, wherein said subsequence comprises: (l) a first lysine residue located six to ten residues from a second lysine residue; (2) at least one histidine residue; and (3) at least 6% lysine residues, and wherein identification of said subsequence and comparison of said subsequence with at least one other Replikin sequence provides for prediction of the relative rate of replication of a virus or organism and/or wherein identification of said subsequence and comparison of said subsequence with at least one other Replikin sequence provides for control of the replication rate of a virus or organism. Also disclosed is a computer readable medium with stored instructions encoded that allows a computer to carry out said method. . |
