abstract A continuous ignition system for a burnable mixture such as a hydrocarbon flare includes a fuel air mixer, an ignition chamber 22 and an ignition device 10. The mixer mixes air with fuel at the correct ratio to create a combustible mixture, the ignition chamber includes a fuel burner head 12 configured to feed the combustible mixture into the interior of the ignition chamber, and the ignition device 4, 10 continuously ignites the combustible mixture from the fuel burner head to create a burning gas which exits the ignition chamber via the open end 30 of the chamber and, in use, ignites the burnable mixture.
