abstract Provided is a process for making a cell having a reduced spontaneous mutation frequency comprising; a) introducing an antimutator allele of a gene encoding DNA polymerase IV and an antimutator allele of a gene encoding a sub-unit of DNA polymerase III; or b) introducing an antimutator allele of a gene encoding DNA polymerase IV or an antimutator allele of a gene encoding a sub-unit of DNA polymerase III, and overexpressing Mutl or MutS; or c) introducing an antimutator allele of a gene encoding DNA polymerase IV and an antimutator allele of a gene encoding a sub-unit of DNA polymerase III, and overexpressing Mutl or MutS; or d) introducing an antimutator allele of a gene encoding DNA polymerase IV and an antimutator allele of a gene encoding a sub-unit of DNA polymerase III, 15 and over-expressing Mutl and MutS. Further provided are cells obtained by the said process and use of such cells for the production of proteins and fermentation products.
