abstract | Disclosed are modified sugars and nucleotide phosphates thereof, as represented by the general formulae (I) and (II), wherein R1 is H, CH2OR7, COOR7 or OR7; R7 represents H, optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted heteroalkyl; R2 is a member selected from H, OH, fluoro, chloro, bromo, a tosylate ester, a mesylate ester, a triflate ester; and a moiety that includes a nucleotide; R3, R4, R5, R6 and R6' are independently selected from H, optionally substituted alkyl, OR9, and NHC(O)R10, and at least one of R3, R4, R5, R6 and R6' includes a moiety having the formula: -NHC(O)(CH2)s-NHC(O)-R11, R11 being a polymeric modifying moiety; wherein R11 and the remaining substituents are as defined herein. Of particular importance are compounds where R2 represents cytidine monophosphate. |
