Disclosed is a compound of general formula (I) wherein: X is O, S, NH or NHR1, R1 being straight or branched alkyl with 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R is a statin residue as described in the specification and Y is a bivalent radical as described in the specification. The above compounds are statin nitroderivatives, useful as cholesterol reducing drugs, immunosuppressives, antioxidants, antithrombotics and anti-inflammatories. They have an effect on endothelial function, and can be used for treating and/or preventing acute coronary syndromes, stroke, and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease as well as autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis. |
