titleOfInvention | Novel crystalline polymorphic forms of lercanidipine hydrochloride and process for their preparation |
abstract | Disclosed is a crystalline lercanidipine hydrochloride Form (I) having at least one significant X-ray powder diffraction pattern peak at a 2 theta angles value selected from the group consisting of 5.4, 14.2, 18.6, 21.7, 21.9, and 22.8. Also disclosed is a method for producing lercanidipine hydrochloride crystalline Form (I), which comprises: a) adding isopropanol containing a maximum of 5% water (v/v) to a crude lercanidipine hydrochloride Form and heating under reflux and with stirring to produce a clear solution; b) cooling the solution of step a), optionally adding crystalline seeds of Form (I) and stirring until the concentration of lercanidipine hydrochloride dissolved in the crystallization solvent is less than or equal to 2%; and c) recovering the solid obtained from step b) and drying said solid to 25 produce the lercanidipine hydrochloride crystalline Form (I).
