abstract A system for providing assistance to impaired drivers is disclosed. The system comprises a substance detector for generating an impairment reading for a user based on a sample provided by the user; a notification device in communication with a receiver at a transportation service. The notification device contacts the receiver when the impairment reading is outside a predetermined range and the notification device provides the transportation service with navigational data when the notification device contacts the receiver to permit locating the user. The system also comprises a key blocking device which provides access to a key when the impairment reading is inside the predetermined range. A related method for providing assistance to impaired drivers is also disclosed.
