abstract | A method of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in an anionic formulation is disclosed, which comprises adding to said anionic formulation a synergistic mixture of (a) a benzethonium salt; and (b) at least one of (i) dehydroacetic acid or a salt thereof; and (ii) salicylic acid or a salt thereof. The synergistic mixture may further include (c) benzoic acid or a salt thereof; (d) phenoxyethanol; and (e) benzyl alcohol.
