abstract Disclosed are compounds of formula (I) and methods of preparing compounds of formula (I) in which: R1 represent H, a (C1-C6) alkyl, a (C3-C6)cycloalkyl, a group -CH2CH2COOH or a group -NR2R3; and R2 and R3 each represent, independently H or (C1-C6) alkyl. The disclosed compounds have affinity for V1b receptors, or both V1b and V1a receptors and are therefore useful in the treatment of disorders such as cardiovascular conditions, stress, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacks, conditions of the renal system, small cell lung cancers, obesity, type I and type II diabetes, insulin resistance, hypertriglyceridaemia, atherosclerosis, Cushing's syndrome, dismenorrhoea and premature labour.
