abstract Disclosed is a method for making a coating powder capable of forming a coating having the property of antimicrobial activity, comprising: (a) providing a resinous coating powder comprising a resinous base composition and at least one coating additive, (b) adding to the resinous coating powder an effective amount of a solid, silver-containing antimicrobial additive powder to obtain the property of antimicrobial activity when formed into a coating, and (c) blending the powders at a temperature at least that of a glass transition temperature of the resinous base composition to create stable adherence between the powders and thereby form a coating powder.
