A method of controlling undesired plant growth in the presence of cultivated plants is disclosed, which comprises applying to soil as a preemergent herbicide, a herbicidal synergistic composition comprising, in addition to customary inert formulation excipients, a mixture of: (a) at least one acetamide selected from diphenamid, napropamide, acetochlor, butachlor, dimethachlor, dimethenamid, dimethenamid-P, fentrazamide, metazachlor, metolachlor, pethoxamid, propachlor, propisochlor, S-metolachlor, thenylchlor, and flufenacet; and (b) a synergistically active amount of a lipophilic additive comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of C13-C20 fatty acids (such as stearic acid), C13-C20 fatty alcohols (such as stearyl alcohol) and hydrocarbon fluids (such as iso-paraffins). |
