Disclosed is an emulsion comprising nanoparticles for delivery to a target tissue, wherein said target tissue is characterized by high levels of alphavbeta3 integrin, wherein said nanoparticles consist of high boiling liquid perfluorocarbon cores coated with lipid/surfactant, and wherein said nanoparticles are coupled to a ligand specific for alphavbeta3 integrin, through a covalent linkage, through a spacer to a component of the lipid/surfactant coating, with the proviso that said ligand is other than an antibody or fragment thereof. The nanoparticles may further include biologically active agents, radionuclides, or other imaging agents. |
