abstract | A nicotine delivery system in which the dosage form is a monolithic or bilayer mucoadhesive film, wherein the mucoadhesive film comprises an effective dose of nicotine and at least one non-microbial hydrocolloid. When applied intraorally the film dissolves to release the nicotine which is absorbed through the oramucosae and directly reaches systemic circulation. Methods for preparing various versions of the dosage forms are disclosed. Methods of assisting cessation of smoking or nicotine dependence by administering one of the dosage forms described are also disclosed. |
